Merthyr's Peace Heroes - Exhibition Autumn 2018

Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr Tydfil is hosting WCIA's Wales for Peace exhibition from October 5th to November 21st 2018 - with a fascinating timeline exploring Merthyr's own homegrown 'Peace Heroes'.

Leading figures such as 'Apostle of Peace' Henry Richard, WW1 MP Keir Hardie, and 'Mother of Wales' Minnie James - who opened the Temple of Peace in 1938 - are explored, along with stories researched by Cyfarthfa's volunteers and local WW1 Conscientious Objectors whose tribunals have been re-enacted on film by students from University of South Wales.

On 5th October, students from Cyfarthfa High School opened the exhibition with a hands on workshop exploring perspectives of Merthyr's peace makers of the last 100 years - and families visiting over the Autumn Half Term will have the opportunity to produce and bedeck a denim jacket with 'peace protest badges' in the tradition of CND and other high profile peace campaigns!
